OUR FORESTS

Stimson Lumber Company owns and manages over 500,000 acres of forest land in the Western United States. Many of the logs we convert into building products originate from our own timberlands. This steady flow of raw materials from our own company lands gives us the flexibility to run our manufacturing facilities in the most efficient manner possible.
Stimson has a long-standing tradition of responsible forest management. We support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. The SFI label is a sign you are buying products from well-managed forests, backed by a rigorous, third-party certification audit.

Through our participation in SFI, and adherence to Stimson’s own forestry principles, Stimson demonstrates responsible and sustainable forestry while maintaining a viable and productive business:

  • Stimson forest land and log procurement programs undergo a rigorous, independent third-party audit to ensure compliance with SFI program standards.
  • Our operations are audited annually to verify continued compliance with the SFI program.
  • All timber harvesting under Stimson’s control is conducted exclusively by Qualified Logging Professionals (QLPs).

WORKING FORESTS

At Stimson we operate working forests. This means we actively conserve forest ecosystem services through our commitment to carbon sequestration, water filtration, flood and fire control, and wildlife and plant habitats. We care for these ecosystems with the desire to produce wood products, replant and restart the cycle of nurturing the forest.
