OPERATIONS

PRODUCING GREEN, CLOSE TO HOME, FOR OUR FUTURE

Stimson owns and operates seven mills in Oregon and Idaho. All the mills are located adjacent to the vast Stimson Lumber Company land holdings. The objective of our milling operations is to add value to the logs harvested from the company timberlands. All products produced by Stimson mills are certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

CLATSKANIE, OR

Our Clatskanie mill procures logs from a wide variety of timberland owners in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. One of the few mills in the Pacific Northwest that can process large logs, the Clatskanie mill produces a wide variety of products, including power transmission arms, appearance-grade timbers and long-length dimensional lumber.

Products
Green dimension lumber in 8 ft to 32 ft lengths
S4S Timbers in 4 in and 6 in
Rough timbers up to 40 ft

Distribution
The Clatskanie mill is served by the Portland & Western Railroad, which connects to the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad. The mill offers loading for centerbeam cars, maxi trucks and flatbed trucks.

GASTON/FOREST GROVE, OR

Located approximately 30 miles west of Portland, our Forest Grove mill was built in 1933 at the foot of the Stimson’s original timber holdings in Oregon. Today, the complex houses a wet-process hardboard mill and a modern stud mill.

The stud mill uses Douglas Fir and Hemlock logs to produce 6-foot to 10-foot premium studs for retail markets. Most of the logs are supplied from Stimson timberlands located next to the mill. The hardboard plant uses byproducts from the stud mill — Douglas Fir sawdust and wood chips — to manufacture a high-density panel used for many retail and industrial applications.

The mill uses Douglas Fir, Larch, Whitewood and Cedar species to produce dimensional lumber (2x3, 2x4 and 2x6) in 6-foot to 10-foot lengths. The mill also produces 4/4 boards and 5/4 decking.
