General Summary: Responsible for purchasing open market logs, administration of public and private timber sales and assisting in Landing operations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1. Assist in the log procurement program for the Trout Creek log collection yard.  Includes developing and maintaining working relationships with non- industrial and industrial sellers of logs tributary to the Trout Creek Landing and Stimson’s Inland Operations, as a whole.

 

2. Administers timber sales as assigned. Includes oversight of harvest and delivery of timber from sales to specified locations.

                                                               

3. Monitors the delivery of logs in relation to volume, species, sorts and log quality. Communicates situations not meeting specifications or targets to the appropriate log suppliers and implements corrective actions as needed.

 

4. Assists the Landing Manager in operations; including landing and log scaling contract administration, log inventory, log transfers, etc.

 

5. Works cooperatively with other company Procurement Foresters in meeting log volume goals at all Company locations in the Inland Region.

 

6. As directed, provides assistance to log/timber purchasing in the Bonner geographic area.

 

7. Performs all duties in conformance with company policies including Stimson’s “Forest Principles”.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

1.  Knowledge of basic harvest methods, logging costs, timber cruising, log scaling, forest regulations and log values.

 

2. Skills in oral and written communications and use of computers.

 

 

Education and Experience: This position requires at least two years of forestry field experience with experience in log procurement, preferred. A four year degree in one of the forestry disciplines is preferred but not required.
